It’s Model Spotlight time again! This time, The Model Matters is shining the spotlight on Paige Stoveld. This human being and model is another example of a true Beauty on the inside and out. I urge you to look at her Instagram account, @paigeystoves, but not just to admire and be inspired by her photos: read her captions. She has some very important things to say. Don’t just take my word for it, check it out.
Paige....thank you so much. You put a smile on my face and in my heart or too many reasons to list here. XO
HI, PAIGE! WHAT AGENY/AGENCIES ARE YOU WITH / WHERE ARE YOU BASED / HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN A MODEL?
I am with One Management (NYC + Chicago) on their curve board and based in NYC. I have been modeling since I was 16 (but took a break to go to college, start my broadcasting career, etc.) and got back into modeling about three years ago! (I'm not telling you my age hehe)
HOW DID YOU GET INTO MODELING, AND AT WHAT AGE?
I had a dear friend in high school whose sister is Khaliah Ali and at the time she had a clothing line and was represented by FORD in NYC on their curve board. She insisted that I be brought in and consider modeling, so I did! I was signed a week later.
WHAT WERE YOU LIKE AS A CHILD BETWEEN THE AGES OF 5-9 YEARS OLD?
Oh man, I was SO shy. I was afraid of lots of things - mostly because I was bullied starting in the 2nd grade. Despite all of that, I was a sweetheart - I loved being with my sisters and painting. I was a chubby little gal - my family called me (and still does) Paigey Poo, after Winnie The Pooh.
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE, MOST MEMORABLE PHOTO SHOOT YOU’VE EVER DONE?
My most memorable shoot I've done was my very first one - with Saks Fifth Avenue. Back in the day (like early 2000's!) you would have a car pick you up, they did your nails on set, all the glam! I remember feeling like a million bucks.
WHAT WOULD YOU AND YOUR AGENCY SAY ARE YOUR BEST ASSETS AS A MODEL?
I think we would both agree on my smile and big personality. Some of my best photos are when I am REALLY laughing on set and you can just see it all. I've taken my challenges from bullying growing up and turned them into something powerful within. It never hurts to always be kind and to give someone a simple smile :)
WHAT WOULD YOU SAY ARE YOUR BEST ASSETS AS A HUMAN?
My best assets as a human would be my genuinity and nurturing side. I care a lot about the people that come into my life and make sure that they are taken care of - especially from a mental health aspect, whether you are a friend, family, colleague, etc. I'm always 100% genuine and put others before myself.
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE TYPES OF MODELING JOBS?
Ohhh! Hands down, the modeling jobs where you get to travel. I absolutely love doing campaigns on location - whether Miami, Nashville, or Los Angeles. I also love the gigs that allow you to be "you." I think it's so important these days that many companies are wanting real natural shots of women modeling in their own personality - free flowing, belly laughs, minimal edits, etc. I'm here for it all!
WHAT DO YOU LIKE MOST ABOUT BEING A MODEL?
One thing I like most about being a model is honestly being able to be a role model for so many other people without even really realizing it. I try not to take social media too seriously and do not have a huge following (I'm working on it though!) but the amount of messages I get from women all over the world about how they love my content because it's just "so real and honest" makes me feel SO GOOD. The other thing I like about it is that it's still pretty cool to see your face on a website or what not. That will never get old.
WHAT DO YOU THINK THE GENERAL PUBLIC MISUNDERSTANDS ABOUT MODELS?
I think the biggest misconception that the general public has about models is that our job is easy. Modeling. Is. Not. Easy. It has taken me YEARS to feel 100% comfortable in front of a camera to get the shots I am looking for and I know other models can attest to that themselves too. Modeling is a form of art. People think you stand there looking pretty and smile. It's so much more than that - the amount of time you put in with test shoots, practicing in front of the mirror, learning how to properly pose for e-commerce (catalogs), the best angles for your body, the best poses for your body in certain clothes, etc. the list goes on!
WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO MODELS WHO ARE JUST STARTING OUT IN THE BUSINESS, AND TO PEOPLE WHO ASPIRE TO BECOES MODELS?
My biggest advice I would tell people wanting to start modeling would be to just go for it! You more than likely will be rejected a few times by some agencies before you get into one, and that's okay! It takes time. And, practice, practice, practice. Spend time learning your face and body while looking in the mirror. Record yourself posing and review the videos so you can learn what looks best and what doesn't look best. It will all be worth it.
